Who we are

The Specials (thespecials.com.au) is operated by Kuroko Technology, an Australian sole trader. We are an automated dining deals discovery platform — we scan publicly available venue websites and social pages to find and display recurring weekly specials across Australian cities.

What information we collect

We do not ask you to register, create an account, or provide any personal information to use this site.

The following data is collected automatically when you visit:

• Usage data via Google Analytics 4 — including pages visited, time on site, device type, approximate location (city level), and how you interact with deals and filters. This data is anonymised and aggregated. Google Analytics may use cookies to track sessions. You can opt out via Google's opt-out tool.
• Click interactions — when you click a deal or a Book button, we record the deal type, suburb, and day locally in your browser (localStorage). This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
• Geolocation — if you use the "Near me" feature, your browser will request your location. This is used only to sort deals by proximity and is never stored or transmitted to us. You can decline the browser permission prompt at any time.

Cookies

We use cookies in the following ways:

• Google Analytics — sets cookies to distinguish users and sessions for analytics purposes.
• Affiliate tracking (CJ Affiliate) — when you click a Book button linked to OpenTable or ResDiary, you may be redirected via CJ Affiliate's tracking link. CJ Affiliate may set cookies to track whether a booking is completed, for commission purposes. See CJ Affiliate's privacy policy for details.

We do not use cookies for advertising targeting, profiling, or any purpose beyond analytics and affiliate commission tracking as described above.

Third-party services

The site uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:

• Google Analytics 4 — usage analytics. Google Privacy Policy
• CJ Affiliate (Commission Junction) — affiliate tracking for booking links. CJ Privacy Policy
• Tally.so — feedback form. If you submit feedback via "Got a tip?", your submission is processed by Tally. Tally Privacy Policy
• Google Fonts — fonts are loaded from Google's servers, which may log your IP address.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties beyond those listed above for the purposes described.

Venue and deal data

The deals displayed on this site are sourced from publicly available venue websites and social media pages. We do not collect or store personal data about venue owners or staff. If you believe any information about your venue is incorrect or you would like it removed, please contact us.

Your rights

Under Australian Privacy Law (Privacy Act 1988) you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your information
• Make a complaint if you believe your privacy has been breached

Given we do not collect personally identifiable information directly, most of the above rights would be exercised through the relevant third-party services (Google, CJ Affiliate, Tally) rather than through us. We are happy to assist where we can.

Data retention

We do not store personal data on our own servers. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months by default. Click interaction data stored in your browser's localStorage remains on your device until you clear your browser data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

The deals and specials displayed on The Specials are sourced automatically from publicly available venue websites and social media pages. While we make every effort to ensure accuracy, we cannot guarantee that any deal is current, available, or accurately described at the time of your visit.

Venues may change, withdraw, or modify their specials at any time without notice. We strongly recommend confirming any deal directly with the venue before visiting.

The Specials is an independent information service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way officially connected with any venue, restaurant, pub, or café listed on this site. All venue names, trademarks, and related marks are the property of their respective owners and are used here solely for identification and informational purposes.

We are not responsible for any loss, inconvenience, or disappointment arising from reliance on information displayed on this site. Use of this site is at your own discretion.
